fruitsveggiesSeven fruits and vegetables a day. That’s what it takes to reduce death by a whopping 42 percent, according to a new study published in the British Medical Journal.

After following a representative sampling of 65,000 people for seven years, researchers found that those who ate more fruits and veggies were less likely to die for any reason—particularly heart disease (31 percent), stroke and cancer (25 percent).

Even if you don’t eat the full seven servings, eating some fruits and veggies still puts you on the path to better health, and the more you eat, the more you’ll benefit.

According to a recent poll by Delta Dental of Washington, 58 percent of people have some anxiety about seeing the dentist. And almost as many are afraid of the costs (50 percent) as they are of the pain (51 percent).  

Fear of the dentist often starts during childhood and continues into adulthood. Whether it’s you or your child who is concerned about visiting the dentist, here are a few tips from Delta Dental to making your next visit less painful on your emotions and your pocketbook:

A staple comfort food—and affordable protein—for millions of people in South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia and the rippling diaspora, the soupy stew (called dal in Hindi) is often eaten with rice or flatbread making a complete protein nutritionaly comparable to meat. Free of dairy, gluten, added sugars and animal fats, dal is high in fiber, rich in B vitamins including thiamine and folic acid and an excellent source of iron and zinc.

Because of the protein and fiber, it has good staying power, so helps stave off post-meal snack urges. Excellent accompaniment to salad.
